What is the "crack" that comes from my back...?

Osteopaths and other therapists often use spinal manipulation as one of our hands-on techniques. One of the most common questions we get asked is "what is the 'crack'".
When your therapist uses an adjustment technique such as this, they are temporarily separating the joint surfaces, this causes a momentary change in pressure and a small gas bubble to form and "pop". This helps in the short-term by helping the joint move more freely, causing a release of endorphins (happy hormones) and reducing the sensitivity of nerves in the area.
Hopefully, by helping you to move with more ease and feel less pain, you will be able to get moving at home with exercises and usual activities, which will get you back on track to enjoying life!

Thanks for explaining the science behind the 'pop'! I always worried I was grinding my bones away. I spend way too much time in a terrible posture (guilty of slouching for hours while playing on Level up casino login on the weekends), so my lower back is constantly stiff. It’s a relief to know the noise is just gas bubbles releasing pressure. I definitely need to book a session at your Highett clinic to fix my alignment before it gets worse!
