Conditions Necessity Health Treat
Arthritis
There are a lot of different types of arthritis. The most common type is osteoarthritis, which is a degenerative joint condition. A lot of people with osteoarthritis get told that there is nothing that can be done about their pain. This is NOT TRUE. There is nothing available in current medicine that can reverse wear-and-tear. There are however things that can be done to improve mobility and pain and long-term management of osteoarthritis. At Necessity Health, treatment for osteoarthritis involves hands-on and exercise-based approaches to help to loosen up the stiff areas, improve flexibility and strengthen the weak areas. This is a very effective and helpful way of managing osteoarthritis. The big thing is, if coming to Necessity Health keeps you moving and managing your pain, you will be less dependent on pain medication and your whole body and health will benefit from you continuing to move and do exercise.

Pregnancy Care
Pregnancy causes the body to undergo many changes. Throughout the 9 months, progressive adaptations occur to allow for the developing child. The ligaments soften, the curves of the spine change and the posture is altered. The weight of the baby causes the centre of gravity of the expectant mother to gradually move forward. This alters normal mechanical stress on the body and can cause arching in the lower back.
Why do pregnant women visit an osteopath?
-
Back and neck pain as a result of extra strain on the spine
-
To optimise the biomechanics of the pelvis in preparation for delivery
-
Nausea and heartburn as a result of tension in the diaphragm
-
Circulatory problems e.g. swelling of the legs and varicose veins as a result of increased pressure on the abdomen
-
Headaches
-
Urinary Incontinence
-
Pelvic/Pubic pain
How does an osteopath treat a pregnant woman?
Stretching and joint mobilisation techniques can increase blood flow and improve flexibility of joints and muscles. Soft tissue massage can release tightness in the muscles that have to work harder due to the postural changes and increased weight. Your osteopath can also provide posture and exercise advice (including pelvic floor and core strengthening)

Shoulder, Elbow and Wrist Pain
Shoulder pain is very common and can happen for a range of reasons. The shoulder is the most mobile and complex joint in the body and therefore fixing any shoulder problems requires a detailed examination and diagnosis as well as holistic treatment.
Elbow and wrist problems often have a repetition or muscle fatigue component to them. Often overlooked is the fact that there are nerves that follow various paths through the elbow and wrist, and that other areas such as the neck, shoulders and upper back can have a direct link to elbow and wrist pain as well.
At Necessity Health, treatment for shoulder, elbow and wrist problems involves detailed assessment of the neck, back, shoulders and upper extremity. We have hands-on and exercise-based treatment options that can help to unload any areas of excess tension, mobilise any stiff areas, strengthen any weak areas and help you fix and manage the problem long-term. People often present to Necessity Health with problems in these regions and have tried lots of different treatment options with no success. Despite this, we often yield very positive results and often completely resolve the problem.
It's the detailed assessment, hands-on treatment and individually tailored exercise programs that makes Necessity Health the best treatment option for your shoulder elbow or wrist problem.
